Here's a question for you, apropos of nothing. Why do little kids love dinosaurs so much?
Well, not apropos of nothing for me. I was watching a show on dinosaurs and it got met thinking about them. The show used all sorts of computer animation to show dinosaurs. It wasn't as good as "Walking with Dinosaurs" which I recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it, but it was interesting. I'm always impressed with how much they can extrapolate from such little data. They're all like Sherlock Holmes, I think. Making huge conclusions on the basis of very small evidence. I believe it is called deductive reasoning. Anyway, answer my question in a comment. Why do little kids love dinosaurs?
I was over someone's house one day, and i saw on the refridgerator a piece of paper written in a scribble. it said, "when i grow up, i want to be a DINOSAUR" Apparantly, the little 5 year old of the family picks dinosaur as his career. i thought that was very funny.
ReplyDeleteSo perhaps little kids like dinosaurs because they find them to be inspirational creatures?
What an interesting question. I know that my older cousin has liked dinosaurs since she was a little girl. It is possible the fascination children have with them might stem from the fact they are so mysterious. But the real reason is probably because they are good topics for movies and television so they are exposed at an early age when it comes to movies like the "Land Before Time" series. Of course it isn't just dinosaurs, why do little kids like a lot of things like trains or horses?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in elementary school, some of my closest guy friends were obsessed with dinosaurs! We would watch Land Before Time and the guys would play with the " dig up your own dinosaur " sets. The nerdier group of boys would tell me facts about dinosaurs and the more creative would tell me about how they will dig up dinosaurs in their backyards when they grow up and become very rich.
ReplyDeleteI think they liked them so much because of how large the dinosaurs are. I think they also like the aspect of them being real before and now are not. It gives children space to let their imaginations run freeee. Also shows like Barney make it hard for kids to dislike dinosaurs!
Now , of course, my friends pretend that phase never happened but I still have fond memories of the dinosaur time.
Id have so say i used to absolutely love dinosaurs when i was little. The fact that such colosal creatures existed on the face of the Earth still fascinates me. Children probably love dinosaurs due to their size. Also i agree with Matt that children love dinosaurs because they are mysterious. The theories such as the meteroid crashing into Earth and causing the dinosaurs to become extinct still interests me. Its a question that every child would want to solve.
ReplyDeleteI think that children find dinosaurs very fascinating creatures which leads them into loving them. The way that films portray dinosaurs is so diverse that they could at the same time be the strongest yet most innocent creatures alive and who doesn't love that. Like the dinosaur from Toy Story , he is adorable!!
ReplyDeleteWrong, wrong, and wrong again. Children love horses and trains, that is true. But, adults also love these things. But, children absolutely go crazy over dinosaurs. The reason, (I won't say "of course" since none of you got it) is that children are fascinated and terrified of monsters. They inhabit a world of fantasy, where monsters might actually exist. This fascination with monsters has it's safe outlet in the study of dinosaurs. One's parents can assert that ghosts and witches etc. don't exist, but we have a sneaking suspicion that they do. But, everyone agrees that dinosaurs are extinct. They can't harm us anymore. But, in the distant past, watch out. Hence, they are terrifying, but safe. And children love them.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with you Mr. Bennet. I for one hated dinosaurs because for me they were used as a method of discipline by my parents. they told me that if i stayed up past 12 they come out and if they see your awake they come in and eat you. Naturally one day i stayed up purposely with a golf club in hand. When it struck 12:01 i heard loud banging on my door, so i ran for my closet and hid the rest of the night with a cat-like readiness to fight off any prehistoric creature that came my way. Although i was terrified of them, dinosaurs never failed to capture my imagination.
ReplyDeleteoh and way to call out Diana, Mr. Bennet. lol owned
ReplyDeleteHmm yeah, I saved all of my toy dinosaurs in a box in my basement. I think that it might be time to stroll down memory lane.
