Letter to myself.

Dear Mr. Bennett:

I'm surprised you're not developing a resentment.  After all, you're spending hours commenting on every single blog post written by 34 students, which, if the machine ran well, would mean about 75 comments per week.  Meanwhile, when you write a post, you're  lucky if one person comments, and that one person is always the same person.  The class is certainly treating you shabbily.

But, look at the bright side. The very same lack of consideration that you're experiencing will enable you to continue to crow that your generation was vastly superior to this one, and that you would never have acted so disgracefully "back in the day."  So, instead of being annoyed, thank the class for their lack of manners.  It is the perfect tonic for your smug self satisfaction, a veritable elixir for that ego you nurture so lovingly.

You are right, of course.  You knew it all along, but now you're certain.

Yours truly,

  1. I'm beginning to think that you may want to see a psychiatrist if these letters to yourself continue, I have rarely seen people do this. However, I will admit that last year as a creative writing assignment, I did write an 11 page letter to myself which was quite interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed it although it was a very fun topic as well.

Also, I hope I'm not commenting too much on your blog and scaring your students away. If I am, please tell me, and I will begin to keep my comments to myself, since the time has passed for me in this class.

  2. Don't worry, James. Only one or two people beside you actually read this blog, and those that do are not timid at all. So, keep on truckin', pardner. A missive from you is a ray of sunshine in any season.

  4. Talking in 3rd person is definitely a sign of being partially crazy, but i believe all the best people are a little bit crazy lol. i personally forget to check my blog nightly because its not as much as a written assignment but more of a casual educated frequent response to a film. id say its a safe bet to say other people are sharing in my struggle. but im trying to write on this more, it is pretty enjoyable once you get the ball rolling. you do a great job of not getting sick of us terrible teenagers lol i applaud you.

  5. I'm very sorry we treated you like this, Mr. Bennett, and I know how you feel. Not a lot of people come over and say something on my blog either. From now on, I'll also try to comment more.

  6. I'm sorry Mr. Bennett! It seems my commitment to not go on the computer until my homework is done is working against me on this one, as I always forget to blog by the time I do get on. Maybe I'll put a post-it note on the computer.
